Piculet : Active Micro-Catheter for CTO Crossing

Operational Concept

The Piculet system is designed to improve success rates in procedures for re-canalization of arteries with tight lesion or CTO via the “true lumen” (as opposed to a subintimal approach). Piculet is also designed to drastically shorten procedure times thereby saving cost, decreasing radiation and contrast material injection.
The Piculet provides the physician with the added impact required for crossing a CTO, while preserving the physician’s preferred choice of wire and wireescalation algorithm.
Once the tip of the catheter or the wire is gently pressed against the lesion, an oscillation is generated at the wire tip. The oscillation delivers up to 50 times higher impact than can be generated manually with the same wire for breaking through fibrotic and calcific CTOs.

Piculet Advantages

The physician can determine the amplitude and the frequency of the oscillations to optimize the results for different types of lesions.
Over the Wire (OTW) system that enables the physician to choose any type of 0.014” guide-wire and replace guide-wires during the procedure without losing position.
The oscillating tip together with the tip steering allows for in-lumen progress, minimizing the risk of crossing into the sub-intimal space.
The oscillation facilitates the guide-wire’s automatic selection of channels and soft spots in the CTO.
The oscillating tip of the micro-catheter facilitates the crossing of the CTO by the distal part of the catheter itself and not only by the wire, thereby paving the way for a PTA balloon crossing.
Real world cases suggest a significant reduction in procedure time with the advantage of a substantially decreased use of contrast material, exposure to radiation and fluoroscopy time.
The intended use of the Piculet™ is to facilitate the intra-luminal placement of conventional guidewires beyond stenotic lesions (including sub and chronic total occlusions) in the peripheral vasculature.
